Bethan Frake

Principal

Professional Experience

Bethan is the principal lawyer of BDF Law and is an experienced litigator and advocate, working in commercial and civil litigation, estate litigation and employment law in Tasmania.

Bethan graduated with honours in 1998 from the University of Bristol (UK).

British born, Bethan migrated to Australia in 2001 when she commenced working in private practice, before founding BDF Law in 2015.

Bethan was admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania in January 2006 and the High Court of Australia in June 2009.

  • Member of the Governance Committee of Amnesty International Australia 2015 – 2021
  • Northern Representative for the Tasmanian Women Lawyers Association since 2014-16
  • Regional President of the Tasmanian Branch Committee of Amnesty International Australia 2020-2021
  • Volunteer solicitor at the Launceston Community Legal Centre since 2014-2018
  • Member of the Board of Management of the ‘Time Out’ Project – Assistant Treasurer 2008 – 2010

Experience

Bethan has extensive litigation experience and regularly appears as counsel in various Courts and industrial tribunals including the Fair Work Commission, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, the Magistrates Court, the Supreme Court of Tasmania, the Tasmanian Civil & Administrative Tribunal and other state-based tribunals.

Bethan’s commercial practice also provides commercial services for business and property transactions, wills and estates, conveyancing, leasing and trusts.

Bethan provides solution-based advice to a number of national and local businesses; advising and acting in litigation concerning contractual disputes with financial institutions, corporations, trusts and individuals.

Bethan’s interest is human rights and she is an activist and supporter of local and international human rights campaigns.
